·
Graduate
Record Examination or GRE
is a standardized test that is an admission requirement for many graduate
schools mainly in the United States and Canada.
·
ETS
creates and administers this test worldwide.
·
It is usually computer-based test administered
by top quality qualified testing centers. The paper-based GRE test is offered in
those regions where computer-based testing is not available. In India, only
computer-based test is offered.
·
The
GRE test is only one of
the several factors which graduate schools look at to decide the selection of a
candidate. A high score alone does not convert to an admission offer. But the
test can be looked upon as the first major hurdle to be cleared in the process
of getting admission into a graduate school.
·
The Graduate Record Examination measures
verbal, mathematical and analytical writing skills. There is more emphasis on
your ability to understand what you've read and how you apply your reasoning
and less reliance on vocabulary out of context.
The GRE revised General Test
features question types that closely reflect the kind of thinking you'll do in
graduate or business school.
- Verbal Reasoning — Measures your ability to analyze and evaluate written material and synthesize information obtained from it, analyze relationships among component parts of sentences and recognize relationships among words and concepts.
- Quantitative Reasoning — Measures problem-solving ability, focusing on basic concepts of arithmetic, algebra, geometry and data analysis.
- Analytical Writing — Measures critical thinking and analytical writing skills, specifically your ability to articulate and support complex ideas clearly and effectively.
